Sticky Lime Sesame Turkey Meatballs with Asian Dipping Sauce

These Asian-inspired turkey meatballs are incredibly flavorful and easy to prepare. They combine lean ground turkey with fresh ginger, scallions, cilantro and sesame oil, and are served with a bright sesame-lime dipping sauce. They work beautifully as a weeknight dinner over zucchini noodles or as an appetizer when made smaller and skewered for dipping.

These meatballs were first shared years ago and quickly became a reader favorite. They pair well with steamed rice, fried brown rice, or zucchini noodles (zoodles) for a lower-carb option. If serving with zoodles, a spiralizer or a julienne blade on a mandoline makes quick work of the zucchini. For a simple, flavorful meal, toss the zoodles briefly in sesame oil over medium heat and top with the warm meatballs and dipping sauce.

The meatballs are seasoned with minced ginger and garlic, chopped scallions and cilantro, plus a touch of low-sodium soy sauce and sesame oil for authentic Asian flavor. Baking them at a high temperature gives nicely browned exteriors while keeping the interior tender. A simple dipping sauce made with lime juice, soy sauce and sesame oil brightens the dish and complements the herbs.

You can scale the recipe, serve it family-style, or make the meatballs smaller for cocktail parties. Leftovers reheat well and also make a tasty sandwich or grain bowl topping the next day.

Why this recipe works

  • Lean ground turkey keeps the meatballs light but still moist when combined with panko and an egg.
  • Fresh aromatics—ginger, garlic, scallions and cilantro—provide bright, layered flavor.
  • Sesame oil and soy sauce lend a savory, nutty depth without overpowering the fresh lime in the dipping sauce.
  • Baking at high heat produces a well-browned exterior with minimal hands-on time.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup panko crumbs
  • 1 1/4 lbs 93% lean ground turkey
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp minced ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 3 scallions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tsp sesame oil

For the dipping sauce:

  • 3 tbsp reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 1/2 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 1/2 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh scallion

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 500°F (260°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, panko, egg, salt, chopped scallions, minced garlic, minced ginger, chopped cilantro, 1 tablespoon soy sauce and 2 teaspoons sesame oil.
  3. Gently mix with your hands until ingredients are evenly combined—avoid overworking the mixture to keep the meatballs tender.
  4. Shape the mixture into meatballs about 1/4 cup in size (this recipe yields roughly 12 meatballs). Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment or a lightly greased rimmed sheet.
  5. Bake at 500°F until cooked through and browned on the outside, about 15–18 minutes. Internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
  6. While the meatballs bake, whisk together the dipping sauce: combine lime juice, water, 3 tablespoons reduced-sodium soy sauce and 1 1/2 teaspoons sesame oil. Stir in 1 tablespoon chopped scallion and set aside.
  7. Transfer the cooked meatballs to a serving platter and spoon a little of the sauce over them. Serve the remaining sauce on the side for dipping.

Tips: For a lower-sodium meal, use reduced-sodium or low-sodium soy sauce and taste the dipping sauce before serving. If you prefer a touch of heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a drizzle of chili oil to the sauce. To serve as an appetizer, roll smaller 1-inch meatballs and offer toothpicks for easy dipping.
