I’m always creating new breakfast ideas to add to weekly meal plans, and yogurt bowls are one of my favorite go-tos because they’re quick, versatile, and easy to customize. These Cinnamon Apple Yogurt Bowls combine stewed apples with warm spices and golden raisins, spooned over plain Greek-style yogurt and finished with crunchy chopped nuts. It tastes like apple pie for breakfast, but lighter and effortless to make. Serve it for breakfast, an afternoon snack, or a simple dessert when you want something comforting and wholesome.

Why Choose Organic Yogurt

Using organic yogurt matters for many people because organic dairy is produced without persistent pesticides and excludes genetically modified organisms. Choosing organic supports farming practices that focus on soil health, crop rotation, cover cropping, and animal welfare. On organic farms, farmers often build healthy soil through compost and manure, plan grazing to support pasture health, and avoid routine antibiotics by providing clean, comfortable housing for cows. The result is a product that many find both healthier and more sustainable.

Recipe Overview

These bowls are simple to pull together: simmer diced apples with a little sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and golden raisins until soft and jammy, let them cool slightly, then spoon over plain yogurt and sprinkle with chopped walnuts or pecans. The finished bowls are warm, fragrant, and balanced with protein from the yogurt and texture from the nuts.

Yogurt Bowl Variations

  • Swap the apples for pears for a slightly softer, sweeter result.
  • Use pure maple syrup instead of sugar for a richer flavor and a naturally sweet alternative.
  • Try flavored or vanilla yogurt if you prefer a sweeter base, but plain yogurt keeps the sugar lower and lets the apple topping shine.

How to Meal Prep

You can double the apple topping to make several servings ahead. After cooking, let the apples cool to room temperature, then store in the refrigerator for up to five days in portioned containers. Pack the chopped nuts separately so they stay crunchy until you’re ready to eat. When ready, spoon yogurt into bowls, reheat or serve apples chilled, and add the nuts just before serving.

Prep time: 10 minutes · Cook time: 20 minutes · Total: 30 minutes

Yield: 2 servings · Serving size: 1 bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 sweet apple, peeled, cored and diced (Honeycrisp or Gala work well)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons raw sugar (or maple syrup to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon golden raisins
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 2 cups plain 0% fat Greek-style yogurt
  • 4 tablespoons chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Place the diced apple, sugar, and golden raisins in a small pot. Add 1/4 cup water, sprinkle with cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg, then cover.
  2. Cook over low heat until the apples are soft and slightly jammy, about 16–18 minutes, stirring occasionally so nothing sticks.
  3. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly. The apples can be served warm or chilled.
  4. Divide the yogurt between two medium bowls. Top each with the stewed apples and finish with chopped walnuts or pecans for crunch. Serve immediately.

Notes

To make ahead: Refrigerate the cooked apples in a sealed container for up to five days. Store nuts separately to preserve crunch and assemble just before serving.
