Party Veggie Shooters: Crudites with Creamy Ranch Dip

These veggie shooters—fresh cut vegetables presented in individual shot glasses with a flavorful, light ranch-style dressing—make an elegant, healthy appetizer that’s easy to prep and perfect for parties. Serving individual portions prevents double-dipping and keeps presentation tidy.

This colorful appetizer requires no cooking and comes together quickly. Think bright, crunchy vegetables: bell peppers, cucumbers, carrots, celery, or zucchini all work beautifully. The individual glasses are especially kid-friendly—children often enjoy the fun, bite-sized presentation. If you prefer, swap the ranch-style dip for hummus to make the shooters vegan and dairy-free.

Prepare the dip and cut the vegetables ahead of time, then assemble just before serving to keep everything crisp. These shooters are an ideal lighter option for holiday gatherings or potlucks when you want to offer something fresh and satisfying instead of chips or heavier hors d’oeuvres.

Yield:

Serving Size:
1 /4 cup dip with vegetables

Ingredients

For the skinny ranch dip:

  • 3/4 cup fat free sour cream
  • 3/4 cup fat free Greek yogurt
  • 1/3 cup light mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh chives or dill
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1–2 tbsp white balsamic vinegar (or lemon juice)
  • 1 cup 1% low-fat buttermilk

For the crudites:

  • 1 yellow bell pepper, cut into strips
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into strips
  • 1 large English cucumber, cut into strips
  • 3 medium carrots, peeled and cut into strips
  • 11 baby arugula leaves, for garnish (optional)
  • 11 shot glasses or small clear cups

Instructions

To make the dip:

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the sour cream, Greek yogurt, light mayonnaise, garlic powder, onion powder, chopped parsley, and chives. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper.
  • Stir in the white balsamic vinegar (or lemon juice), then add the buttermilk a little at a time until you reach your desired consistency. The dip should be pourable but still creamy.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. The flavors will deepen if the dip sits in the refrigerator for a couple of hours.

To assemble the shooters:

  • Spoon about 1/4 cup of the prepared dip into the bottom of each shot glass or small clear cup.
  • Arrange several strips of vegetables vertically in each glass so they sit in the dip. Add a small arugula leaf for a pop of green if desired.
  • Keep chilled until ready to serve. These are best served cold and are easy to transport for potlucks and parties.

Serving Tips & Variations

Choose a variety of colorful vegetables to make the display visually appealing. For a vegan or dairy-free option, replace the dip with hummus or a dairy-free ranch alternative and use plant-based yogurt or mayonnaise. Swap in raw zucchini, snap peas, or celery for extra variety.

Make the dip up to 24 hours ahead and store it refrigerated in an airtight container. Cut and store vegetables in cold water in the refrigerator for several hours to keep them crisp; drain and dry before assembling. For larger gatherings, scale the ingredients as needed and assemble right before serving for best texture.
