Jalapeno poppers meet nachos in this playful, low-carb mashup of two beloved appetizers—perfect for sharing at a Super Bowl party or any casual gathering. These Jalapeno Popper “Nachos” combine spicy, smoky jalapenos stuffed with a creamy cheese filling, topped with seasoned turkey, melty cheddar and fresh garnishes for a crowd-pleasing, keto-friendly bite.
Jalapeno Popper “Nachos”
This recipe was inspired by loaded mini bell pepper nachos but replaces mini peppers with halved jalapenos for more heat and bold flavor. Each jalapeno half is filled with a creamy blend of cream cheese, sharp cheddar and scallions, then baked until tender. A lean turkey mixture seasoned with garlic, cumin and tomato paste is spooned over the poppers, topped with extra cheddar and finished with pico de gallo, olives, sour cream and fresh herbs. The result is a handheld, low-carb appetizer that delivers classic nacho flavors in a lighter, messier, and more exciting package.
For easy cleanup when you’re entertaining, line the baking sheet with non-stick foil. I tested this recipe using heavy-duty non-stick foil for easier cleanup and to prevent sticking; it also eliminates the need to grease pans heavily. If you prefer, you can use parchment paper or a well-greased baking sheet.
These poppers are slightly spicy, very flavorful and do get a bit messy when piled with toppings, so have forks and napkins on hand. The recipe is gluten-free, low-carb and suitable for many keto meal plans. Serve warm and let guests pile on the pico de gallo and sour cream to taste.
To Prep Ahead:
You can prepare the turkey mixture and the cream cheese filling up to 24 hours in advance and keep them refrigerated. When guests arrive, simply stuff the peppers and bake—this saves time and keeps you enjoying the party instead of being stuck in the kitchen.

Ingredients
- Non-stick aluminum foil (for lining the baking sheet)
- Olive oil spray or a light oil for sautéing
- 1/2 pound 99% lean ground turkey
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons chopped onion, minced
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro, plus more for garnish
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 tablespoon tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons water
- 8 jalapeno peppers, halved, seeded and membranes removed (use gloves when handling)
- 3 ounces reduced-fat cream cheese (softened)
- 1 large scallion, green part only, thinly sliced
- 1/2 ounce shredded sharp cheddar cheese (for the filling)
Toppings
- 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese (for melting over the poppers)
- Chopped scallions and cilantro for garnish
- 2 tablespoons sour cream mixed with 2 teaspoons water for drizzling
- 1/2 cup pico de gallo or fresh salsa
- 2 tablespoons sliced black olives
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with non-stick foil and set aside.
- Heat a medium nonstick skillet over medium heat and lightly spray with oil. Add the onion, chopped cilantro and minced garlic and sauté for about 2 minutes, until softened.
- Add the ground turkey to the skillet. Season with salt, garlic powder and cumin. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spoon, for 4–5 minutes until fully cooked.
- Stir in the tomato paste and 2 tablespoons of water, mix well and simmer for 2–3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Remove from heat and let the turkey mixture cool slightly.
- Meanwhile, in a small bowl combine the softened cream cheese, 1/2 ounce shredded cheddar and the sliced scallions. Stir until evenly blended.
- Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture into each jalapeno half. Arrange the stuffed jalapenos cut-side up in a single layer, close together, on the prepared sheet pan.
- Bake the peppers for 12–15 minutes, until the jalapenos are tender and the filling is warmed through.
- Remove the pan from the oven, spoon the cooked turkey mixture over each stuffed pepper, then sprinkle with the 1/2 cup shredded cheddar. Return to the oven for about 3 minutes, until the cheese melts.
- Finish by topping each popper with pico de gallo, sliced olives and a drizzle of the thinned sour cream. Garnish with additional cilantro and sliced scallions and serve immediately.
Serving & Tips
These Jalapeno Popper “Nachos” are best served warm straight from the oven. Because they’re hand-held and generously topped, provide forks and plenty of napkins. If you want to reduce the heat, use mild jalapenos or remove more of the white membranes. For an even cheesier version, add a sprinkle of Mexican-blend cheese before the final melt.
To adapt this recipe for a vegetarian crowd, swap the turkey for a seasoned, well-drained mixture of cooked lentils or a crumbled plant-based protein. For extra color and crunch, serve with diced avocado or a light cabbage slaw on the side.

Recipe Notes
If preparing ahead, make the turkey mixture and the cream cheese filling and refrigerate separately. When ready to serve, stuff the jalapenos and continue with baking and topping steps for best results.
Handle jalapenos with care: wear gloves when removing seeds and membranes to avoid irritation to skin and eyes.
