These Summer Quinoa Breakfast Bowls are one of my favorite ways to start the day. Served warm like a cereal and finished with fresh fruit and a drizzle of honey, they’re a protein-packed, nourishing breakfast that’s easy to make and naturally gluten-free.

Summer Quinoa Breakfast Bowl
Quinoa makes a wonderful morning cereal: it’s warm, lightly nutty, and provides a satisfying source of plant-based protein. For variety, try berry-focused versions or savory quinoa breakfast bowls with eggs and salsa. The version below highlights summer fruit—grilled peaches for a caramelized sweetness plus fresh raspberries and blueberries—served with warmed almond milk for a creamy finish.
I cook the quinoa in almond milk with a touch of brown sugar and vanilla, which gently sweetens the grain and results in a soft, porridge-like texture. If you prefer a thicker bowl, use less milk during cooking; for a creamier, looser cereal, stir in additional warmed milk just before serving. Using plant-based milk keeps this recipe dairy-free, though cow’s milk or any alternative will work.
This summer bowl is bright and fresh, but quinoa pairs equally well with autumn flavors—think apples, cinnamon and pumpkin spice for cooler months. Feel free to swap fruits, sweeteners and toppings to match the season or your pantry.
Summer Breakfast Quinoa Bowls
Yield: 2 servings | Serving size: 1 bowl
Prep: 5 mins | Cook: 20 mins | Total: 25 mins
Ingredients
- 1 small peach, sliced
- 1/3 cup uncooked quinoa, rinsed well
- 2/3 cup + 3/4 cup almond milk (or milk of choice), divided
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tsp brown sugar, or sweetener of your choice (optional)
- 12 raspberries
- 14 blueberries
- 2 tsp local honey (1 tsp per bowl)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine the rinsed quinoa, 2/3 cup almond milk, vanilla and brown sugar. Stir to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the quinoa is tender and can be fluffed easily with a fork. If needed, cook a few minutes longer until your desired texture is reached.
- While the quinoa cooks, heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat and lightly oil or spray it. Grill the peach slices for 2 to 3 minutes per side until grill marks appear and the sugars start to caramelize. Remove and set aside.
- Warm the remaining 3/4 cup almond milk in a small saucepan or microwave until heated through.
- Divide the cooked quinoa between two bowls. Pour a little warmed milk into each bowl to reach your preferred consistency.
- Top each bowl with grilled peaches, raspberries and blueberries. Drizzle 1 teaspoon of honey over each bowl and serve immediately.
Notes & Tips
- Rinsing quinoa before cooking removes its natural coating (saponin) and prevents a bitter flavor.
- For a creamier texture, stir in a spoonful of Greek yogurt or an extra splash of milk just before serving.
- Swap peaches for nectarines, sliced banana, or poached pears depending on what’s in season.
- To make this vegan, substitute maple syrup or agave for honey.
- Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for 2–3 days. Reheat gently with a splash of milk to restore creaminess.
