This Arugula Fig Salad pairs sweet, ripe figs and creamy goat cheese with peppery baby arugula and a glossy balsamic glaze. It’s a simple, elegant side salad that requires just five main ingredients and comes together in minutes—perfect for seasonal gatherings, weeknight dinners, or as a light starter for a special meal.

Arugula Fig Salad
When figs are in season, this salad is one of my favorite quick go-to dishes. The natural sweetness of fresh figs balances the tangy, creamy texture of soft goat cheese, while baby arugula provides a bright, peppery base. A drizzle of balsamic glaze adds a concentrated sweet-tart finish, and a touch of extra virgin olive oil rounds everything out. If figs are unavailable, ripe peaches or pears make excellent seasonal substitutes.

About Figs
Figs have a distinctive honeyed sweetness and a soft, seedy texture that complements both savory and sweet ingredients. Fresh figs shine in salads because they add natural sweetness without the need for added sugar. Choose figs that yield slightly to gentle pressure—overly firm fruits may not be as sweet, while overly soft figs can be difficult to slice. Rinse them gently before use and quarter or halve depending on size.
Balsamic Glaze
Balsamic glaze is a reduced balsamic vinegar that becomes thick and syrupy, concentrating its sweet and tangy flavors. A little goes a long way—drizzle sparingly over the finished salad to enhance the figs and goat cheese. If you don’t have ready-made glaze, you can simmer good-quality balsamic vinegar until it reduces by half or more to reach a similar consistency. Pair the glaze with a small drizzle of extra virgin olive oil for balance.
How to Serve
Serve this salad on a large platter for sharing or compose individual plates for a refined presentation. Arrange the arugula first, scatter quartered figs, and crumble the goat cheese on top. Finish with a light drizzle of balsamic glaze and a few drops of olive oil. For variation and texture, add toasted nuts such as slivered almonds, chopped walnuts, or pecans. If you prefer a stronger blue cheese flavor, gorgonzola is an excellent substitute for goat cheese.

Serving Size & Notes
Yield: 8 servings. Serving size is approximately 1 cup arugula with cheese, 1 fig, 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze, and 1/2 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil. This salad is best served the same day it’s prepared so the arugula remains crisp and the figs retain their texture.
